Waddey & Patterson PC announced its appointment of Associate Matthew Cox, who will practice in the areas of patent prosecution and enforcement of intellectual property rights in the areas of patent, copyright, and trademark law.
Cox, 29, told VNC this morning he joined the firm in August, and in October received word he passed the Tennessee Bar exam. W&P added other attorneys, earlier this year.
Cox earned his J.D. at the University of Tennessee College of Law; and, earned his master's and bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering at Vanderbilt University School of Engineering in 2002 and 2005, respectively.
His technical background includes experimental research in materials. As a graduate student at Vanderbilt, he gained experience with gas turbine engine technology and worked as both a research assistant and a teaching assistant in the VUSE department of mechanical engineering.
Cox said that while he had considered pursuing a Ph.D. in engineering, he moved toward law, a decision partly influenced by his exposure to lawyers among his extended family. ♦
